Children’s Picture Books

I have taken time out of my trajectory as a Brand Designer to work on other projects. I’m passionate about the art of storytelling and the creative process, so I teamed up with my brother (we call ourselves The Brothers Hilts) to illustrate and publish a picture book for kids (The Insomniacs). That led to publishing two more books of our own, earning us an international readership and to a side career in illustration and publishing.

Storytelling for a Very Special Audience

A Family of Insomniacs

My first book, The Insomniacs, was published by Penguin/Putnam. It was an incredible experience collaborating, not only with my brother but the editors as well. We worked for a year on getting the artwork right, learning about the pacing of a book, the art of the page turn and really trying to understand the audience (5-10 year olds). In the end it was a success, we got great reviews and won an award for the most promising newcomers from the Society of Illiustrators in NYC and were published in 4 additional languages.

A quietly magnificent paean to the wonder of nightime and the solidity of the family unit.
